High-Five Netball Festival 23rd April 2013
A cold April afternoon saw 9 hardy Y5 and Y6 boys and girls at St. Mary’s, to take part in the “High-Five Netball Festival” with a number of other local primary schools.
A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all, once we’d got the rules clear! We definitely need to work on our marking, passing and shooting skills, and unfortunately we didn’t win any of our three matches. But we learnt an awful lot, and our team showed a huge amount of potential and promise – if points had been awarded for enthusiasm, we would have won hands down!
A big thank-you to Mrs Horsfall and her daughter Alice for all the help they gave us on the day.

Year 6 Football
The Year 6 boys played in their 2nd Football match of the season at St Mary’s High school against St Mary’s Primary school in Horsforth. What a match it certainly was! Unfortunately, Sacred Heart was one man down but that didn’t stop us going onto the pitch with great determination and enthusiasm. Louis scored an amazing hat trick in the first half! The score at half time was 3 -2 to Sacred Heart. Not long into the second half Louis shot the ball straight into the back of the net for the fourth time. Soon after that Sol scored an amazing goal. But it didn’t end there! St Mary’s managed to come back scoring a further two goals meaning that the score crept up to 5-4! Luckily for us, this didn’t last too long as Will C. managed to dodge through the St Mary’s players and score another great goal. Finally, Louis scored his fifth goal of the match. Leaving the final result as 7-5 to Sacred Heart - what a tremendous result with just six men!
Our game with Otley St Joseph’s got off to a promising start. Louis scored moments after the whistle will a cool skirted finish from six meters. Shortly after that though, we found ourselves foul of the game rules and on the wrong side of a powerful penalty kick which equalized the match. Not put off by the unfortunate equalizer, Louis put us back in the lead with a rising strike from the edge of the box. From there on, Sacred Heart's Year 6 dominated the match with fantastic goals from Sol and Jack J. though a they did concede a further penalty. St Joseph’s did make several attempts on goal but they struggled penetrate the defense and then failed to get the ball past Will in goal. In the last few minutes of the match with a commanding 6-2 lead, the team was beginning to tire, especially as they were playing without substitutes. It was little surprise when the opposition began to score with two goals in quick succession. However, that didn't stop Sacred Heart putting one last ball in the net to finish the game 7 - 4 up and rightly proud.

Sacred Heart Multi Skills Festival April 25th 2013
Although the day looked fairly grey and the rain threatened, the Year 1 Multi skills festival was well underway.
Twelve, Year 6 PE leaders designed the activities; wrote lesson plans; thought hard about how to differentiate activities to suit the needs of the children, and ran their activity with proud precision. Of course, they needed another pair of hands and so persuaded their friends to help out!
8 activities were set up and between the four schools that entered, a total of 74 excited Year One children began their round- robin multi skills experience.
Skills included: a gruelling sack race; the egg and spoon dash; an obstacle course with space hopping; a wet and wonderful water pass; basketball shooting, aiming for the targets and throwing; penalty shoot-out and a rather fast speed bounce.
All in all, the children competed in groups and all enjoyed their time. All scores came in and the winning teams were announced and presented certificates.
A huge thank you to all of the Year 6 PE leaders and helpers, staff and of course the children who entered.
Let’s hope the sun shines next year….
