About us - September 2012

Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School serves the parishes of Sacred Heart, Ilkley,  Our Lady and English Martyrs, Addingham, and St John Fisher and St Thomas More, Burley in Wharfedale, within the Diocese of Leeds.

It has a proud history of providing a consistently high standard of education across all areas of the curriculum. The highly qualified and dedicated staff work tirelessly to maintain the school’s commitment to excellence and to enable the children to become confident and articulate young people who enjoy life and make the most of its opportunities.

The school’s Mission Statement challenges all those in the school community to live and work together as Christians, to do their best and to do all the good that they can for others.  This ethos is lived out on a daily basis through the interactions between staff, children and visitors; the high standards of academic work that is produced across the school;  the well-established links that exist with the local community, the Diocese, with schools in Malawi, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa  and organisations such as CAFOD.

Parents/Carers are strongly encouraged to be involved with the school in a variety of ways e.g. attendance at whole school Masses, Liturgies and Assemblies,  attendance at Information Evenings,  as members of the Governing Body, as volunteers helping within school, as fund raisers in ‘Sacred Heart School Association’, as members of the ‘Carnival Committee’.

The school’s ‘Open Door’ policy ensures that everyone associated with the school is able to discuss school-related matters  with staff, at mutually agreed times, when issues arise.

The school is located in Ilkley; a most attractive town with a history of occupation dating back to the Romans. It is a popular centre for visitors attracted by its scenic setting next to the River Wharfe. There are excellent facilities for children in the large riverside park as well as splendid walks on nearby moors. The famous landmark of the Cow and Calf rocks lies to the east of the town. There is a wide range of local facilities for families including the swimming pool, tennis and badminton clubs, golf and cricket.

The local theatre and the Town Hall uphold a long tradition of quality music and drama and the town hosts an annual Literature Festival as well as a Music Festival. There are regular rail and bus services to Leeds and Bradford and the local airport is only eight miles away.
